Freedom of Information Requests
On 1 April 2013 the new NHS commissioning organisations came into force. The new Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) along with the National Commissioning Board will lead on the commissioning of health services for local populations taking over from Primary Care Trusts and Specialised Commissioning Trusts.
Before submitting a Freedom of Information (FOI) request please check where responsibility for the service or function has been transferred to. Some useful websites are: National Commissioning Board (website contains information about the new organisations, processes and responsibilities), Shaping a Healthier Future (the reconfiguration programme for North West London), and the Department of Health.
In summary (this is not an exhaustive list),
- The CCGs will commission elective hospital care, urgent and emergency care, community healthcare and mental healthcare & learning disability services for its own population.
- The National Commissioning Board will lead on primary care contracting (GP Contracting, Dental, Pharmacy), specialised services, offender healthcare, secure mental health care and some armed forces healthcare.
- Local Authorities will take on the responsibility of Public Health which includes sexual health services, drug and alcohol treatment, health checks, school nursing programmes, giving up smoking programmes and services to prevent childhood obesity.
How to submit a request
The FOI Act gives anyone a general right to request information held by public authorities such as the NHS. The aim of the Act is to create a climate of openness in public services and to inform people how public authorities make their operational decisions and how public money is spent. Much of this information - such as minutes of meetings, board papers and policies, financial transactions - is already available through our publication scheme.
When you make your request, please state clearly which CCG you are referring to and try to be as specific in your request as you can.
Requests must be made in writing and can be made by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by writing to:
