Ealing Maternity Unit

Ealing CCG's Governing Body will meet on 18 March 2015 to discuss the progress made to ensure there is sufficient capacity and capability and that clear clinical pathways are in place to ensure a safe transition of Ealing Hospital maternity and interdependent services. If satisfied, the Governing Body is expected to make a decision on the timing of the transition of services from Ealing Maternity Unit.

If a decision is made, the change will not be immediate. Many women will still be able to continue to give birth at Ealing. For those women who will need to change, we will contact them directly and talk through their options with them.

Whilst the maternity unit is currently safe, the challenge it faces increases the risk that the service will become unsustainable which would require an unplanned closure, which is neither fair nor reasonable for the women or staff. The planned changes will improve care for women across NW London by enabling improved continuity of care, increasing investment in the home birth team, expanding the community midwife programme, having more senior consultant cover in maternity units and providing a midwife-led unit alongside every maternity unit in North West London.

The meeting will be held from 2pm at Queen's Hall, Ealing Town Hall, Uxbridge Road, W5 2BY.
