New laws require patients to consent to records being shared
The way that patient records are shared between different GP practices has changed. Patients are now required to consent to their information being shared between practices in order to access services such as evening and weekend appointments which may take place at a different GP ‘practice or health centre in the area.
These changes come following new privacy laws introduced under the ‘General Data Protection Regulation law (GDPR)’, which aims to strengthen the protection of EU citizens data and privacy’. Practices across NW London are contacting patients where consent is still needed to make sure patients don’t experience any difficulty accessing services such as evening or weekend appointments in the future.
