Self-Care Week: Manage your care online

Tuesday’s self-care tip: Patient Online means that patients are now able to use the internet to book and change appointments, manage repeat prescriptions, and access a summary of their own medical records.

The CCG has worked with local practices to help them kick start the use of Patient Online and over the coming months we will be providing them with detailed, professional toolkits to all the local practice teams excited about Patient Online.

Evidence shows that the more control people have over their own health and wellbeing, the less likely they are to experience poor health outcomes – and the less likely they are to be admitted to hospital.

We also know that lots of patients would love to take this opportunity to secure greater control over their health, but do not always feel confident using computers. That’s why NHS England is delivering a national programme of training in digital skills and access to technology, aimed at people who might otherwise not be able to use services online. Patients should ask their GP to set them up with online access if they want to use this service.
