St Charles Health and Wellbeing Centre's new gardens to open
NHS West London Clinical Commissioning Group and The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are celebrating the launch of the newly designed community gardens at St Charles Health and Wellbeing Centre Exmoor Street, W10 6DZ. The gardens will be opened at 12pm on Saturday 11 May 2013 by Councillor Fiona Buxton, Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board.
As part of the development of the St Charles Health and Well Being Centre, NHS West London CCG have provided the space and worked in partnership with Western Riverside Environment Fund and the local Council to encourage the community to take up and enjoy gardening, often for the first time. Since the start of the project, 15 local community groups now grow their own fresh fruit and vegetables, nurturing vegetable plots and extensively planted flower beds. Local residents can also enjoy the relaxing patio area.
Cllr Fiona Buxton said: “I am delighted that West London CCG is committed to continue the development of St Charles as a community health centre. These gardens are a marvellous haven in an area where many people lack their own garden space”.
The scheme has attracted many and community groups including Dalgarno Neighbourhood Trust, Baraka Youth, Age UK, Open Age, local schools and hospital staff at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust, have worked very hard and now enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Carolyn Regan, Managing Director of West London Clinical Commissioning Group said: “I am very pleased that the CCG can demonstrate its practical commitment to working with local groups and residents to improve health and wellbeing. This is a much needed resource which is already well used”.
West London Clinical Commissioning Group is the new organisation responsible for commissioning health services from Hospital Trusts, Mental and Community Health Trusts and community organisations in Kensington and Chelsea. It consists of GPs, who now, under changes in the NHS, are responsible for the planning and commissioning of many health services that their patients need. By working with the public and patients, GPs will be able to secure better health care outcomes.
Other activities on the day of the launch will be a tour of the new improvements at the centre, flower pot painting and planting and children’s art workshops. Light refreshments will also be available.
The launch takes place at from 12pm until 3pm at St Charles Health and Wellbeing Centre Exmoor Street, W10 6DZ.
