Half Penny Steps walk-in service to close 23 March

Following a £2 million investment to improve access to GP appointments, NHS West London Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has confirmed that the contract for the walk-in service at the Half Penny Steps Health Centre, Harrow Road, will not be renewed after 23 March 2018. The announcement comes following a review of primary and urgent care services in the area.

The review highlighted the fact that demand for the service was low and people were presenting with issues that could be managed by other services, including GP and nurse appointments and local pharmacies. West London CCG has already invested in extended access to primary care, with more appointments available in the evening and at weekends.

“The impact on local healthcare services is likely to be very limited,” said West London CCG Chair Dr Fiona Butler, “as demand for the service is expected to be absorbed by the additional investment in GP and nurse appointments and other services nearby.”

The decision will not affect the Half Penny Steps Health Centre, which will remain open as usual and has started a Saturday extended hours service. Advice from West London CCG to local residents is for those without a GP to register at a local practice and to make use of the greater number of appointments available in the evenings and at weekends.

Information and staff will be available at the service to support patients to access alternative services in the area.
